Forty kilometres from site, a kiln that has not changed method in sixty years — and why that matters to a specification.

The kiln sits forty kilometres from the Courtyard House site. It is family-run, wood-fired, and produces a brick with a colour range no industrial process would tolerate.
Specifying it meant writing a tolerance the contractor had never seen and defending it twice. The wall is better for it, and so is the forty-kilometre economy that built it.
