Why we measure daylight in mass rather than lux, and what that changes on site.

Lux is a measurement of quantity. It tells you nothing about where the light came from, how far it travelled, or what it touched on the way. On site we have stopped asking how bright a room is and started asking how heavy its light feels — whether it arrives across a wall, down a shaft, or through a reveal deep enough to have a temperature of its own.
This is not mysticism. A north clerestory over a 600mm reveal produces a fundamentally different room from a south window of identical area, and no lux figure separates them. The reveal is the design decision. The glazing schedule is the consequence.
